Wayne "D22-soso" Chiang helped define competitive gaming before it had a
mainstream name. As SoSOWAC he topped Case’s Ladder in Command & Conquer
(1996) and Warcraft II (1997). Planning to retire after Warcraft II, he was
lured back when teammate SuperPeon mailed him StarCraft on March 31, 1998.
He again hit #1 in 1v1 and teams, maintained top-10 Battle.net ladder ranks
from seasons 1 to 4, won the first StarCraft tournament (20 players, $250)
at Neutral Ground Mountain View against Jay “Gadianton” Severson, and became
StarCraft’s first play-by-play caster at PGL Season 3 after missing registration
by one day.

Recruited by Dennis “Thresh” Fong and Bob “Calbear” Colayco, he led GX StarCraft
on Gamers.com—Tips of the Day, patch strategy updates, battle reports, and
Pimpest Plays, the original esports Top 10 highlight reel.

At the 1999 Brood War Season 1 Ladder Tournament—Blizzard’s first official
Brood War international championship—Chiang played Random. He bested Nautosoft,
Shin Ju Young, and Guillaume “Grrrr…” Patry, then defeated Crexis (Chris Low)
on Showdown. After losing the Terran cliff war, micromanaged infantry, Ghosts,
and Siege Tanks secured the $2,500 world title.

Beyond RTS, Chiang competed on the Magic: The Gathering Pro Tour (New York
2001, Boston 2002) and is publicly credited by Brian Weissman and Tom Martell
for originating curated draft pools that became Cube Draft. In Hearthstone he
reached Legend #35 Standard NA and #11 Wild NA.

Today he is Talent Manager for the World Series of Poker, overseeing the
official Vlogger Program, and inventor of patented casino games including
2 Hand Hold’em™ and Badugi Chase™. With Fortune 500 executive and WSOP
champion Joe Matton he co-authored Betting on Yourself: Winning in Business,
Poker, and the Age of AI (Kendall Hunt). At the 2025 WSOP he interviewed
StarCraft legend SlayerS_BoxeR.
